After finishing high school, Wally signed on with the merchant marine. In 1923, he earned a law degree and rapidly found work copywriting for the L.A. Times. He later began his own agency and published a number of do-it-yourself magazines. One of these magazines published an article describing plans for the construction of a travel trailer. Wally improved these designs and began selling sets of plans for $5. He began building improved versions of the trailer in his Los Angeles backyard. Sales were good. His fledgling business survived the crash of 1929 and on January 17, 1936, the Airstream Trailer Company introduced the "Clipper" and an American Legend was born. Reel Wheels Airstream Trailer is just a distance cousin of this American Legend. |
